Girls in Aviation Day is a fun way to get kids involved in aviation by getting them actively learning about an exciting field with different activities. Some activities the girls might expect to find are:
MEET women with careers in aviation
EXPLORE the world of aviation
CONTROL a pretend air traffic control tower
LEARN about jobs at the airport
FIND OUT what an aircraft dispatcher does
TALK like a pilot when you say the alphabet
HEAR what it's like to be a professional pilot
CHECK OUT all different kinds of airplanes
USE tools that an aircraft mechanic uses
FLY a flight simulator and get a feel for the controls
TEST your own aeronautical designs like an engineer
NAVIGATE using an aviation sectional chart

Reflection
Working with Willamette Valley Wings on the Girls in Aviation Day has been an enjoyable experience for me. Its great to be around strong women who helped empower other woman in a male dominant field. Being a woman in the automotive business I know what its like and I feel like I'm helping us get one stop closer to equality in the work force. |
