Making the healthy choice the easy choice
THRIVE UMPQUA IS A COMMUNITY WELL-BEING INITIATIVE, CONTINUING THE TRANSFORMATIVE WORK OF BLUE ZONES PROJECT-UMPQUA
Since 2017, the Umpqua Valley community has united with the common purpose of enhancing the well-being of its residents. Inspired by the longevity principles derived from the Blue Zones, regions known for having the world's longest-living populations, even small adjustments have yielded tremendous advantages: reduced healthcare expenses, heightened productivity, and ultimately, an elevated standard of living.
Through the dedicated efforts of Thrive Umpqua, our region has been officially recognized as a Certified Blue Zones Community, solidifying our commitment to facilitating healthy choices throughout the environments where we spend the majority of our time. By making the healthy option the convenient option, we are fostering an atmosphere that promotes the well-being and vitality of all individuals in the Umpqua Valley.

Thrive Umpqua's Principles are based on the Research of The Blue Zones
The "Blue Zones" are regions of the world where people live the longest and healthiest lives. Through the study of the world's longest-lived cultures, Blue Zones harnesses valuable insights to empower individuals to lead improved and extended lives.

My Service with Thrive Umpqua
I volunteered my time with Thrive because I believe what they are doing is important- promoting well-being in the community by providing people opportunities to increase their longevity.
In my role, I supported the marketing efforts by producing promotional videos and posters for their social media platforms. I also volunteered at community events, representing Thrive Umpqua at their table.
Additionally, I proofread and revised documents, introduced plant-based options to the local menu, edited an end-of-year sponsorship letter, and actively contributed to an event-planning committee. Furthermore, I designed a new business card for UC-Veg, a partner of Thrive, who collaborates on events such as the "Lifestyle & Nutrition Course" led by UC-Veg. |

History of Blue Zones
National Geographic Fellow Dan Buettner, along with a team of demographers, studied the places around the world with the highest concentrations of centenarians. From Sardinia, Italy, to Okinawa, Japan, to Loma Linda, California, people are living vibrant, active lives well into their hundreds. Buettner calls these areas Blue Zones. Buettner’s research, along with a global longevity study, has evolved into a global movement that’s inspiring people to live longer, more active lives with lower rates of chronic disease.
