SAINTS SOCCER ACADEMY (2011 BOYS)
ASSISTANT COACH.
INTRODUCTION
My name is Derrick Sarfo, a senior at Portland State University majoring in biology and minoring in chemistry on the pre-med track. I am in a class called Agent of effective change and through this class; I have partnered with a soccer club organization called Saints Soccer Academy. In this organization, I served as an assistant coach for the 2011 boys. I personally grew up playing soccer and I love it and I believe that it is best sport in the world. Soccer is one of the sports that bring a cordial relationship between countries, friends, families, and the community. I chose to work with the organization because they are helping the community to reduce crime rates, drug abuse and a whole lot. Studies have proved that sports help children not to engage in bad deeds and it also make their brain effective. I started working with the club in 2018 and it was fun coaching others the sport that I like best. The club is diverse and most of the kids come from different backgrounds and have passionate for the sport. Always, they are ready to learn and have fun.

hISTORY ABOUT SAINTS SOCCER ACADEMY
Who are we? Saints. That is our chant. The name of the organization that I am working with is called Saints Soccer Academy. The Saint’s Soccer Academy was formed as a non-profit 501(c)(3) in May 2016 to help provide developmental and competitive soccer and high-level coaching to the North Portland and the surrounding community and to give more passionate soccer players in the area an affordable opportunity to grow, develop and compete at a higher level. The mission of the club is to provide youth in the society an affordable opportunity to play developmental and competitive soccer. Our club provides service to boys and girls age 6 years old to 17 years old. We aim to bring the best in each player by providing a high-quality training environment and to teach our youth advanced technical skills. Our players live in the Portland Metropolitan area, including Vancouver, Gresham, Clackamas and beyond. Our registration fees for our players is approximately ½ the cost of other competitive clubs in Portland and we aim to provide up to 30-40% of our families with some form of scholarship
We have a passion for the world-wide game of soccer and a passion for our community and we’re consistently striving to use both for positive growth. After a successful start with growing enrollment numbers, a partnership with US Youth Soccer, support from adidas and the Timbers Army 107IST, the young club has just entered its third season with momentum. The club differentiates itself by working hard to provide a community based, all-encompassing atmosphere for both players and coaches. Its aims of developing high quality soccer players is aided by their group of passionate and experienced coaches, all of which engage in ongoing training and are required to obtain coaching licenses through the US Soccer Federation. In addition to year-round development and competitive youth soccer programs, Saints Soccer Academy offers Futsal, skills camps, SDP specialty training, SUN Afterschool program training as well as TOP Soccer, a community outreach program for children with special needs.

gOALS
My goal for the club and the team is to create a safe space where the kids will love the game of soccer. By so doing that, I will be building a strong community where the kids will come out as respectful, successful, and loving one another. Because at the end of every practice, we allowed the kids to share what they learned, what they need to learn, and to share a good thing that their teammates did. We have rules that the kids need to follow; for example, they are not supposed to insult and so far, they have been good. If they broke any of the rules, we let their parents know and they have to go through the set of procedures that the club had situated for those who disobey the rules.
Results (OUTCOME)
We have been having an intraclub tournament since OYSA (Oregon youth soccer association) are not allowing any interclub tournament because of the COVID. And my boys have been doing great. They lost some of their games and win some of them. I coach the 2011 boys, but we had to play with the 2010, 2009 and 2012 boys and we did great to my surprise.
My relationship with the club and team have helped me to become a good leader and a good public speaker as well. I am so grateful for such an opportunity.
