What is Access Living?
Access Living is a Center for Independent Living that offers services and support to people with disabilities in the Chicago Metro Area Services: -Home and community-based services -Housing services -Youth programs -Consulting and training for businesses and nonprofits Access Living also offers legal services. Out of the 22 CILs in Illinois, Access Living is the only one that offers legal services to their clients. The legal department handles cases of housing and workplace discrimination as well as accessibility cases. Currently, they are suing the White Sox for not having ADA compliant seating in their stadium. |

How it went:
I will start out by saying I definitely underestimated the workload of this endeavor. I am a pretty seasoned home baker but this was a big challenge for me! I am happy to say the hard work paid off. Over the 3 weekends, I raised $465 for Access Living! My grandma pitched in $35 to make it an even $500 which means I doubled the initial donation goal! I met so many nice people, got to hang out at a wonderful, employee-owned bar, and spread the word about the amazing work Access Living is doing in our community. |
