Environmental Policy in the USThe environmental policy of the United States is federal governmental action to regulate activities that have an environmental impact in the United States. The goal of environmental policy is to protect the environment for future generations while interfering as little as possible with the efficiency of commerce or the liberty of the people and to limit inequity in who is burdened with environmental costs.

DOI + NORTH FACE + MY MORNING JACKET TEAM UP TO PROMOTE CONSERVATION CORPS AND OUR NATIONAL LANDS"...The North Face has teamed up with the Department of the Interior and My Morning Jacket to celebrate "This Land is Your Land," to encourage people go on outdoor adventures and to support the 21st Century Conservation Service Corps. That youth development program puts veterans and young Americans to work protecting and restoring America’s public lands, a.k.a. some of the most beautiful places in the world.
Calling My Morning Jacket's version of the popular song “our new anthem” the retailer is pairing the tune with a social media campaign called #SeeForYourself. Through Jan. 18, My Morning Jacket will donate 100 percent of its proceeds to the corps for every download of the song, which is available on iTunes." -UT SAN DIEGO |
Mitigation Strategies & IMPORTANCE OF NATURE
“Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home; that wildness is a necessity; and that mountain parks and reservations are useful not only as fountains of timber and irrigating rivers, but as fountains of life.” -John Muir

My Goals in Creating Change Through Government
In working with the OEPC, the ability to absorb and reflect on current environmental action in the US, and the gaps in service, provides me with an unparalleled educational experience to carry into a future career in environmental management. It is not enough to read about the history of environmental policy, it is much more to see it in action.
By attending meetings, brainstorming improvements locally, coming up with ways to expand them regionally, and reviewing environmental policies and procedures at the OEPC, I am inspired by ways that the government does good, and ways for the system to be improved. Including a younger generation to become involved in federal agencies is a step towards a more technologically savvy, efficient, and energized service, that meets the needs of all individuals.
The tools gained in this internship will carry into global environmental management easily. A federal career starting at such an early point in my advanced education will carry me far, and combined with my work at HUD and the DOI, I am obtaining breadth and depth in the environmental and community development sector. In the coming months, I will continue moving forward with my goals of an environmental career, tackling projects on the Columbia River Basin Treaty, Deepwater Horizon, Hydropower Licensing, and Landscape Conservation Cooperatives.
In the future, I hope to work in international government service, shaping environmental policy for communities who need assistance in fairly accessing and managing their natural resources. By continually moving forward and looking for ways to improve environmental policy and soaking up knowledge from every angle, I hope to peak my career by working for the United Nations.
