My Intent and Goal
My name is Marianna Osorio. I chose this work because while food scarcity is a commonly known issue, it is still one that needs more relevance. Scarcity in affordable groceries As prices go up, areas where food is sold at reasonable prices go down. This, leaving people to look for alternatives, has led others to organize various food pantry organizations throughout the state. Through community work, those who do not get the help they need, they still get the equity to get treated the same as anyone else. |

Urban Gleaners and Oregon Food Bank
These are the two organizations I have worked with. Though the work wasn't the same for both of these.
Urban Gleaners was founded in 2006, and although based in Los Angeles, I work for their Beaverton branch. With them, I distribute through Beaverton High School, directly helping students and their families pick out things like meats, eggs, veggies, even pastries, to take home on a weekly basis.
Oregon Food Bank, the more commonly known org, was founded in the 1980's. With them, I don't directly interact with the food distribution aspect, but I do help with packaging. This is extremely important, as this is also where the more experienced workers & volunteers check what comes through their doors for hygiene, making sure what leaves their doors is safe.
