Exploring family diversityThrough work at the Helen Gordon Child Development Center at Portland State University, we see kids grow and see the world from so many unique perspectives. As a teacher qualified student teacher, my responsibilities are to support classroom functions along side lead teachers.
During my time at HGCDC, I had noticed as a result of low staffing, not all the kid's interest had been able to be adeqetly addressed, particularly when it came too seeing and understanding family structures different than there own. My project for this class was to come up with a "lesson plan" on exploring family diversity in various forms, from types of families, parts of families, sizes of families and many more aspects. There are four university studies goals that I kept in mind the entire time I was developing this project. The four are, communication, inquiry and critical thinking, diversity equity and social justice, and finally ethics agency and community. The four of those are prevalent through my project given the nature of the work.
