reflection: why i work for oregon recovers
As a person in long-term recovery from addiction to heroin and methamphetamine, I know first hand how difficult it is to access services when you're ready. The system currently being used is largely broken. It is a reaction-based combination of criminal justice and cottage industry treatment center responses that doesn't address addiction as a public health issue. To my knowledge there are no other statewide advocacy organizations like Oregon Recovers anywhere in the U.S. and I'm so proud to be a part of this movement. At the end of the day, I've lost several close friends to the disease of addiction and almost lost my own life, and I believe that we, as a society, can do better. That's why I work for Oregon Recovers.
