Spring 2018 class project: Helen Gordon and Little vikings
Students of the Spring 2018 class chose to work with Helen Gordon Child Development Center and Little Vikings Child Care Center at Portland State University. Bringing their resources and skill sets together, students created and provided several activities for the children to enjoy:
- Card Making: Using pressed flowers, stickers and markers, children created heartfelt cards to be shared with patients at Doernbechers Children's Hospital.
- Button Making: Children drew pictures and had them turned into buttons.
- Singing, Dancing and Musical Instruments: Children were invited to create musical instruments (shakers, pan flutes, drums), share in a game of freeze dance, and listen to and play music together.
- Brain Presentation: With the guidance of NW Noggin, a neuroscience outreach program, the children learned fun facts about the brain, got to see and touch a real human brain, and made pipe cleaner neurons.
