Hi I am Frona, a student at Portland State University and granddaughter of a loving grandfather I call Papa. Around Christmas 2018 my elderly grandfather was diagnosed with a form of cancer known as Multiple Myeloma. As with most cancers, this is terminal. This Fall 2020, my Papa was diagnosed with Parkinson's. In order for Papa to maintain independence, he needs assistance, and this is where I am lending a patient hand.
Yardwork and gardening
During the Springs of 2018, 2019, I was able to assist my grandfather in his planting of a considerable garden. We grow sweet corn, raspberries, artichoke, sunflowers, red and Yukon potatoes, three different kinds of leaf lettuces, spinach, cantaloupe, watermelon, peas, green beans, tomatoes, zucchini, acorn squash, cauliflower, broccoli, and onions. Also we grow many different varieties of flowers in the beds surrounding the front and back yards. This year, 2020 my spouse and I planted this garden as Papa was only able to "supervise".
Housekeeping
In helping my Papa around his house I vacuum, dust, do dishes and attend to laundry when needed. I am also someone he trusts that he can conversate and communicate with.
shopping and errands
Every week on Fridays I go over to Papa's house, and together we go to the grocery store for any items he may need. We also go shopping for items he may want. Transportation to appointments happens when he cannot drive himself. Sometimes we go out to lunch at his favorite Mexican restaurant. Other times he doesn't have enough energy to leave his house.
