Carpe Mundi Mission is to facilitate the transformation of economically disadvantaged Portland youth into globally aware and socially engaged college graduates
HOW? – We provide low-income college students with personal mentorship, quality international experiential education trips, and post trip advising with community engagement opportunities. WHY? – We have significantly improved the college persistence rate for students with these socio-economic profiles. Over 70% of Carpe Mundi students have completed or are in the process of completing college degrees, while others are continuing their travels and pursuing their passions in music and the arts. WHAT CAN YOU DO? Donate today to help us provide the level of mentorship and support that creates confident young adults who refuse to settle for anything less than their dreams. Carpe Mundi students will travel to great lengths to achieve their goals, and you are an integral part of that journey. |
This page belongs to Brianna Medearis who is working with Carpe Mundi Education for her Effective Change Capstone.
My name is Brianna Medearis. I am first generation Senior at Portland State University Working towards my BA in Social Science. I am a Carpe mundi Alumni and their organization changed my life! Which is why I picked to work with them for my capstone! I remember hearing about Carpe Mundi and I sort of thought it couldn't really be possible or at minimum something I wouldn't be edible for. Growing up low income and never even riding in a plane really kept my expectation low for traveling before the program. As I look back on my experience with Carpe Mundi the most prominent feeling I have is gratitude! I am grateful for everyone that I have met along the way that has helped me in every aspect in my life. I have gained a family and a group to travel through this world with. Having a cohort to lean on that understands the struggles of working multiple jobs and going to school full time has been key for me! You see trying to attempt something that no one else around has done is terrifying. Carpe gave me a community that I needed so desperately to survive higher education. Traveling with Carpe Mundi really gave me a greater understanding of myself and how I walk through this world. I have learn how my actions can impact someone so far away that I might never met. To understand the power of money. |
