2016 development internship

Our Mission: To prevent HIV infections, support and empower people living with or affected by HIV, and eliminate HIV-related stigma and health disparities.
Cascade AIDS Project is working to reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS in the Pacific Northwest. With my internship, I was working in the Development Department and the HIV Testing Department. I began working with CAP in February 2016 and the Development portion lasted through AIDS Walk in mid-September. With the Cascade AIDS Project I learned marketing skills, how to conduct health education in a variety of settings, basic knowledge of excel spreadsheets, and the value of knowing American Sign Language in a public health setting. I was able to assist with the Annual Art Auction, our bimonthly UndieSunday, the bar fundraising competitions, and AIDS Walk 2016. I also helped CAP move locations in downtown. In the clinic, I was administering HIV tests for all members of the LGBT community at the Pivot location. |

REFLECTION- Overall, CAP gave me the experiences I needed to be a more understanding, responsible, and respectful individual. Along with recognizing the needs of the LGBTQ community, I am more in tune with the effects that systematic oppression has on certain LGBTQ populations. I have spoken with people from all walks of life in the Pivot Clinic. I have heard their stories and made an effort to provide applicable resources. I fund raised with the Development Department and gave over 300 hours to raise money for the programs provided by Cascade AIDS Project. I made lifelong friends and networks in the nonprofit community.
I fight for all people affected by HIV.
