Fall 2015 Class project
|
Malden court community orchard
The Fall 2015 class chose to work with the Malden Court Community Orchard helping to define and construct the pathways intersecting the orchard space. During the planning stages, students collaborated in smaller working groups focusing their skills and attention on three different aspects of planning: organizational structure of work and event day schedule, materials collection (cardboard, tools, etc.), community outreach and food donations. During the event, students interchanged the responsibilities of path construction and outreach with the surrounding community:
Path Construction: Responsibilities included hauling and spreading wood chips in designated pathways and clearing new space for continuation of paths within the orchard. Community Outreach: Responsibilities included standing at an information table providing coffee and treats to passing citizens, sharing information about the orchard history and upcoming events as well as space for inviting community voice into the orchard decision making processes. |
