Pull to Action
Ina:
I chose to join the TRIO TS team because it fell in my career field of interest. I knew I wanted to work in schools, but did not define what position. TRIO allowed me to explore the program, college pathway, as well as different positions in the school setting. I also have previous experience in similar work, so I can put my skills to use. Lastly, it is a learning opportunity for myself. I can learn the ropes of colleges and my way around as I help the students through their roadblocks. |
Yesenia:
I chose to work with TRIO because I wanted to work with an organization that I felt that I could personally connect with. As a first-generation low-income college student, I have been able to use my past experiences as a tool to help guide my work and has also made the journey so much more meaningful. Along with this, working with TRIO was the perfect opportunity to give back to my community being that I got to work at my home high school. |

Gratitude
After working with TRIO, we would like to express our gratitude to the program. We both appreciate all it has done for the students who are low income and will be first-generation college students, like us. We have seen the impact it has made, and we are grateful that there are such programs for them out there. In addition to helping our students, TRIO has helped us by partaking in our personal growth. Through our work, we have discovered a love for being a source of support for students throughout the education system and plan to pursue careers that provide support services for students and youth. Our knowledge of the college process has grown immensely; we have built communication skills that prepare us for the professional world, have gotten to learn about and network with other programs, and have been able to help our communities in the process. If we could do it all again, we would do it in a heartbeat.
