Working with the Oregon League of minority voters (OLMV)
My time working with the Oregon League of Minority Voters (OLMV) was a new experience for me. it was a way of being able to go out and be a part of something, even if it is in a small way, and to work for a good cause. my place within the organization was to search for grants, as well as to look over the email and messages sent to the founder, Promise king, to see about meetings being scheduled, contacts established and the affairs of our members. recently a couple of board members had to leave because of how busy their jobs were or because of lost loved ones, which is understandable, especially during this time during a pandemic.

What is the League of Minority Voters?
The League of Minority Voters is a 501-3c non-profit organization, founded in 2007, that is dedicated to ensuring that the political standing of minority voters is valued, especially in providing support to allow for more diverse political candidates in our governing bodies. The League helps in working for this effort in a variety of ways, as well as provide help to minority communities in a number of really impactful ways.

Voting Campaigns and Voting Education
The League of Minority Voters, as is implied, is about encouraging those who are available to vote to always ensure that their vote counts, and to always go out to vote to exercise every citizen's rights by doing so. As well as for providing voting education for any new voters who want to know what it means to vote, and how to register to vote in the first place.

Stem Education
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education is one of the leading, as well as one of the most important branches of education, especially for the future of our best professional builders for the country's future in pushing forward technology, scientific understanding and engineering, as well as how to achieve those advances.
But many communities, mostly populated by racial/ethnic minorities, don't have the opportunities to have their children educated in these fields due to the fact that their schools are massively underfunded. This impacts the potential of these children, as well as these communities in general, when they are not even offered the opportunity to be able to have the ability to be a part of creating a better future because of a divide in how we offer more education for some students than we do for others.
The League of Minority Voters assists with this by helping to provide and fund these needs for students in communities that need these opportunities to allow them a better chance to be able to help provide a future to help with their needs just as much as everyone else can.

Speech and debate
The League of Minority Voters want to ensure a better representation of minority voters, by allowing those who want to work in civic or leadership positions in our government. Local, state, or national, to develop public speaking skills and abilities to prove themselves as effective leaders who are willing to represent their community and present their needs to the general public after having been neglected for so long by our country.
Food banks
We all know how difficult it can be to have to deal with a budget. But for those who have to deal with how to be able to have enough food in order to be able to sustain themselves and their loved ones, this will always take precedence over anything else. This is mostly a problem that affects minority communities due to the fact that most minority communities are impoverished and struggle to make ends meet, due to a lack of economic opportunity that is available or allowed in many senses. To help handle this, the League of Minority Voters offer food banks to make handling budgets and other necessities so that it is easier for minority members to focus on what can be done to have their voices heard within our society.
Reflection
The way I can reflect on this experience is that I feel it has helped me to better understand is that having been able to work in cause I truly believe in is something I feel committed to, and I want to continue to try and advance with the things I believe in for my future. It has also helped me to better understand how underrepresented minority voices can be, even by people who say they support causes like allowing more minority representation, because on many occasions their voices will be drowned out by the people who support the idea and who end up taking over the conversation, rather than actually having underrepresented voices be heard. Especially for ethnic/racial minorities.
It also reminds me that, even if my position feels like a small one, sometimes it's necessary to take on the smaller roles, because someone has to do them one way or another. And this position does help in making sure that the organization has funding to use to further their projects to represent minority voices and provide services to allow better opportunity that has been silently refused by those in power.
