What is ChickTech?
ChickTech is a nonprofit organization dedicated to retaining women in the technology workforce and increasing the number of girls and women pursuing technology-based careers. We do this by facilitating hands-on tech events to support, empower, and increase the confidence of women and girls. Through our events, we build community, inspire participants to see themselves as leaders, and provide networking and mentoring opportunities in the growing high-tech industry.
How do we do it?
How do we do all the above, you ask? Well, it's really quite simple. Right now, we're focused on ChickTech: High School, where each ChickTech chapter provides a free, year-long series of opportunities to a cohort of up to 100 high school girls. Participants are nominated by teachers and community members. We look for participants who could succeed in a STEM career, but who don't think of themselves as technical or who have not had access to opportunities before. With local community members, ChickTech provides our high school girls with interactive workshops, internship opportunities, and mentoring that lead to highly increased confidence in their tech skills and an strong sense of community.
What have we done so far?
In the 35 events we've held in the past two years, ChickTech has positively impacted over 1,300 girls and women and hundreds of volunteers (both men and women!). Since its inception in 2012, interest and demand to grow into other cities has been unprecedented. And this is why we've decided to reach out to you, the public-- our friends, our community, and everyone who either wants to contribute, get involved, or simply wants to spread the word about our nationwide expansion. While working for this very worthy cause, all of us here at ChickTech have realized one important thing, and that is:
Without diversity, technology will never reach its full potential.
