The NOT SO SECRET - SECRET - SOCIETY
Ok, this isn't us.
...but wouldn't it be fun if it was?
we are: a creative exploration into social connection, how acts of service can engage us and bring us together to be better.
WE USE THE JUNTO QUESTIONS TO GROW, LEARN, AND IDENTIFY COMMUNITY PROBLEMS IN A PRE-REHEARSED DIALOGUE that all members can participate in.
“This is our work, to discover what we can give. Isn’t this the purpose of education, to learn the nature of our own gifts and how to use for good in the world?” - Robin Kimmerer

B: Living Room Lectures
Living Room lectures is exactly that: lectures in a living room!!
It is a monthly event, where THREE selected speakers present for approximately 30 minutes each about a topic they are specialized/ passionate about, and give the opportunity for the audience in the living room to interact and ask questions to learn and gain more knowledge about the presented topic.
Guests are usually friends, colleagues or future friends who are following our newsletter and Facebook events/page. The organizer of the living room lectures sends a an invitation through e-mail and post about the living room lecture event on its page on Facebook. In the future, Living Room Lectures will be sending out text message through a new app which will be designed to remind people of the event ahead of time.

Knowledge can transfer from a person to another and it does not require a person to be a professor, a CEO, an author or a professional musician to teach it. It is a valuable resource that is available in all of us, and we all can talk about it and teach it to others.
Those who are knowledgable and passionate are the greatest resource we have as a community, which allows us to gain more knowledge and grow as we share ideas and collaborate horizontally. That's the main goal of the living room lectures, to socialize with and learn from passionate people who are valuable resources of diverse knowledge, good topics and great ideas.
This is a picture of the living room lecture event on the 13th February, 2020.
My first living room lecture experience was on February 13th, 2020. I was one of the three presenters of the event that night, and I discussed and presented about the endangered salmonoid species, and focused my scope on the extinction of local salmon and fish hatcheries. The other two speakers are Kaden and Aliya. Kaden presented about the idea of musical tuning, and how musical instruments have different tuning systems and produce various harmonics. Aliya gave a presentation about plants and shared her knowledge about how to recognize different plants based on the distinguishable differences in their phenotypes.

The Living Room Lecture event allowed me to speak up my thoughts and listen to a mixture of great ideas, questions and thoughts from other people. It was so fun, social and very different to hear and learn from smart people in a casual living room sitting.
You all can join these living room lectures events in the future, and also have the chance to connect with people with diverse backgrounds and experiences. In order to receive email reminders about our future events, please sign up in the newsletter website, which you can visit by clicking HERE.
