Portland Adventist Community Service (PACS)
Personal Statement
My name is Jacob Serrano and I attend Portland State University. I am working on my Senior capstone project that is focused on dedicating my free hours to volunteering at the food pantry with the Portland Adventist Community Services or PACS for short. There is a personal interest with this organization as it is part of the church entity that I grew up with back in Mexico City. The food pantry service holds a special meaning to me as my family had to use this service when I was growing up.

Reflection
It is better to give than to receive, a very common phrase when relating the giving or receiving of gifts. This also applies to service and for me the act of acts of service towards others has brought me a personal satisfaction that I had not felt in a long time. My volunteer time at PACS took me back to my volunteer work in Mexico City and how the amount of work that goes in to helping others has a direct impact on me as well. I hope this organization keeps its doors open for many more years to come and anyone looking to volunteer may be of service to the community during their time there. It is easy to not focus on who you are helping specifically, but being personal with people who are just that, people, they are not someone you might know but they are a person who has feelings and emotions just like all of us do. Being able to be a part of someone's life is very rewarding, even if it is just a quick "I hope you have a good day".
