Patrick CLare Capstone
My name is Patrick Clare, I am currently in my senior year at Portland State University. I decided to do synopsis of a few different projects that I am associated with. I feel they address issues that I am passionate about. All these center around Higher Education and those impacted by the Prison Industrial Complex.

My small time there I met incredible people doing work that is changing the narrative and creating change. Below is a brief speech by current director of the FICGN. |
Reverse The PipelineReverse The Pipeline research project was created to to understand first hand barriers in higher education to individuals impacted by the criminal legal system.
Utilizing qualitative research and thematic analysis we created a concise understanding of these barriers from participants. Below is a slide show created that gives an overview of the process and findings. Why It Matters To meThis work matters to me because it directly impacts me. I have faced challenges because of my past arrest. I am someone who has been denied housing, employment, and had an academic career impacted because of probation. A pursuit of knowledge historically blossoms into limitless personal growth. Perpetuating classist norms and creating divisions in our communities has to end. My ability to establish passion, connection, and purpose came from moments of peace inside a classroom.
