Early cancer diagnosis Research
WHO ARE WE:
We are undergrad, Biology major student at Portland State University. We are working on a cancer research with one of the graduate students who works in Dr. Strongin group.
WHAT ARE WE DOING:
In this research we are relying on dyes that was discovers in a previous research, to learn about which enzymes are being activate, and actives the cancerous cells when the body is injected with the dyes. This research was only being tested on rats.
WHY WE ARE DOING IT:
We both had experienced family lost due to late stage of cancer diagnoses. At the time of the cancer discovery, it was too late for any treatment because the cancer was already metastasized through out the whole body. Not far after our loved ones died. Then our lives changed in a blink of an eye, and we just have to live with the fact that those people died. This was one of the hardest experienced that we have ever lived. So, this what lead us to the research that we are doing know for early cancer diagnosis.

OUR GOAL:
Our goal is to help for early cancer diagnoses and preventing them from going through the same pain experienced the we had to go through. This research can change the future of a lot of people, it will give them hope. Discovering cancer at an early stage gives a higher change of a successful treatment.
RESEARCH COLLABORATIONS:
ELUCIDATION OF REACTION PATHWAYS AND BYPRODUCTS IN ELECTRONIC CIGARETTES AND HOOKAHS. PROFESSORS DAVID PEYTON AND JAMES PANKOW AT PORTLAND STATE UNIVERSITY.
TARGETED IMAGING OF PANCREATIC CANCER. PROFESSOR SUMMER-GIBBS AT OREGON HEALTH & SCIENCE UNIVERSITY.
MONITORING OF CHRONIC DISEASE, ELUCIDATION OF CELLULAR TRAFFICKING MECHANISMS OF MAJOR PHARMACEUTICAL SIDE-EFFECTS. PROFESSOR PETER STEYGER AT OREGON HEALTH & SCIENCE UNIVERSITY.
SYNTHESIS OF HIGHLY POTENT PHARMACEUTICALS THAT NORMALIZE HEART ARRHYTHMIAS VIA A REDOX MECHANISM. PROFESSOR JONATHAN ABRAMSON AT PORTLAND STATE UNIVERSITY.
CHEMOSENSORS AND CHEMODOSIMETERS FOR THE DETECTION OF BIOLOGICALLY RELEVANT AMINO THIOLS. PROFESSOR XIAOFENG YANG AT NORTHWEST UNIVERSITY, XI'AN, P.R. CHINA, AND PROFESSOR CAI-XIA YIN AT SHANXI UNIVERSITY, TAIYUAN, CHINA.
DETECTION OF BIOMARKERS FOR THE EARLY DETECTION OF OVARIAN CANCER. DR. RICHARD G. MOORE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER MEDICAL CENTER, SCHOOL OF MEDICINE AND DENTISTRY, ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
