Paetynn Lopez ~ Let's Talk Sports
|
Introduction:I am a senior at Portland State University, majoring in Sociology and minoring in Psychology. My plan after graduation is to become a mental health coach. I have always had a passion for helping others and self-care. I also have a passion for softball, which brought me to Portland State. It has always been my dream to play at the Division 1 level and now that I am graduating soon, I would love to share that passion with other little girls and help them follow their softball dreams and more.

Mission:
I am from a small town that doesn’t offer a lot of support and skillful coaching. My mission is give young girls more opportunities to get better. With wanting to be mental health coach, I would love to offer mental health training along with physical skills. Over the summer I really considered, implementing mental health training but I wanted to make sure that I really put some thought into the work. Also, I have been doing crossfit for about 5 years now off on. I found a love for fitness, so I have thought about doing workout lessons as well. All of those things are future plans for after I graduate this year.
Why I chose this work? |

THIS IS MY PASSION!
I have been playing softball since I was 10 years old, most of my life up until this has always been about softball. It's very easy to feel like the game defines you. My mission is to help young girls reach these goals and giving the confidence that it's okay to make mistakes. My goal is help these girls become a better person, confident women, and a great softball player.

How am I making a difference now? |
I am working with little girls to be better softball players but I am also trying to encourage positive self-talk. Oftentimes, I will hear young girls say that they can’t do something and I try to immediately tell them something else to say in place of “I can’t”. Also, am trying to tell the girls how important mobility/stretching is, so I have been implementing mobility before every lesson. While I am away at school, I am trying to check up on the girls and their parents as well to see how softball/life is going.
Let's Reflect... |
|
I feel that all of the work that I have done so far has made me a better person, teammate, and athlete. While I have been doing lessons with these girls, I have also been focusing on connecting with my teammates/coaches. Doing this work has made me realize that it's bigger than just the game.
