my Backstory
It has been such a rewarding experience to incorporate my current career option as a program director into a project where I have established a goal, worked towards a specific outcome, and gained skills in establishment, communication, and community. My goal was to connect our youth and families to the Salem community who needs us most in forms that allow youth and families to use our resources we can provide as a long-term organization to the community with other nonprofits that work to help youth and families with similar mission statements. I have simultaneously connected with CFC, Capital Football Club, in Salem to enrich the development of young soccer players of all ages.
After back-and-forth communication with CFC, we successfully made an agreement involving a designated weekly attendance of two to three of their coaches to go for 2 hours a day, one hour for our youth and one hour for teens. The announcement of this great opportunity for our summer program impacted our young soccer players. this opens up new opportunities for new connections between organizations and resources for families. I wish for continuous resources to this community as someone who grew up there and my younger siblings attending in the future. As I continue my time at the Boys & Girls Club, I am excited to see the growth of the organization in this new community and the continuous support to families.
Epping homestead Boys & girls club of salem, marion and polk counties
Our community has built a Boys & Girls Club that transforms the lives of over 8,600 young people each year providing a safe place with caring adults who help each child realize their full potential.
Now, we are growing our impact by building a Clubhouse in an underserved, high needs area of our community. In a community where so many young people face challenges like poverty, food insecurity, and gang violence, we work to ensure every kid has a place to feel safe, a place to feel connected, and a place to belong. A place where they are cared for and their basic needs are met and then receive transformational opportunities for a brighter future.
